Kansas State Capitol
The Kansas State Capitol is one of the most architecturally striking capitol buildings in the country — a French Renaissance structure completed in 1903 with a copper dome that stands 304 feet tall and is topped by the iconic Ad Astra statue of a Kansa warrior. The rotunda murals by John Steuart Curry, including his sweeping depiction of John Brown, draw visitors from across the state year-round. Free guided tours run Monday through Friday, and the dome observation deck is open to the public on a scheduled basis.
The Capitol Visitor Center is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, with guided dome tours offered at scheduled times, so groups should build the tour window into the itinerary.
Charter buses drop groups at the north entrance on SW 10th Avenue, with surface parking available along SW 8th and SW 10th. Confirm current tour availability on the official Kansas Capitol tour page before your visit.
